What this app keeps

The Welcome Fair Companion is built by Imperial College AI Society. It is not an official Union app.

On your phone

Your saved societies, the ones you skipped in the Deck, and your settings are kept in your browser on this device. They never leave it unless you sign in.

The app also keeps a random ID on this device, so Ask can share its daily questions fairly between phones. It does not identify you.

Ask

When you ask a question, it is sent with a shortlist of societies to our server and on to Google Gemini, which writes the answer. We do not keep a record of who asked what: our logs note only how much each answer cost, never the question. An answer may be cached for up to six hours so the next person asking exactly the same thing gets it instantly; the cache holds nothing about who asked.

Cloudflare Turnstile runs a quick check that the question comes from a person, not a script.

Signing in with Google (optional)

Only if you sign in: we receive your Google account email and name from Google, and store them with your saved list so it can follow you to another device. Nothing else from your Google account is requested.

Your sign-in lasts 60 days, and your saved list is deleted 60 days after you last change it. Signing out ends the sign-in on that device.

Hosting

The app is served by Cloudflare. Our servers log errors so we can fix them; they do not keep a record of each visit or your IP address.

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics: which pages are opened, roughly where from and on what kind of device. It uses no cookies, stores nothing on your phone and does not follow you across other sites, and we only ever see totals, never individuals.

There are no ads, no advertising trackers and nothing is sold or shared.

Questions or deletion

Email aisociety@imperial.ac.uk to ask what we hold about you or to have your saved list deleted straight away.
